Match-day fundraising at Tottenham Hotspur

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is a community-based hospice service. The work they do is vital in supporting children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families in North and Central London and Hertsmere. The charity is dependant on the hard work of staff and volunteers as well as the donations and support of the public.

They are also the charity partner of Tottenham Hotspur FC, who have supported them for the last two seasons and have just extending the partnership for another year to come. The players are regular visitors of the children supported by the charity, but the charity are also regular visitors of the club’s stadium on match day. They often host fundraising drives at the stadium and get a great reception from the fans. They recently decided to partner with us at GoodBox and test out the GBx Core, our flagship contactless fundraising device.

In a world where people are carrying less and less cash, tapping their cards more and more, Noah’s Ark knew there was a whole audience of donors who wanted to give but lacked the means to do so. Couple this with the sweeping global trend of stadiums going contactless including Tottenham Hotspur Stadium itself, a cashless donation option at matches is necessary for charities to fundraise effectively. So Noah’s Ark rented a fleet of GBx Core units, armed the team and got to work.

Some team members from our London office even attended, rolled up their sticker sleeves and volunteered to fundraise alongside the Noah’s Ark team.

The ability to accept donations in offline mode is especially useful as connectivity at matches can always be an issue. As can the weather, so the fact that the GBx Core is waterproof is ideal for outdoor fundraising.

The fans dug deep and did their part in supporting the amazing work Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice does. The contactless fundraise resulted in a return on investment of 348% for the charity, raising nearly 4 times what they spent on the devices in just a few short hours at the stadium.

One of the key reasons that Noah’s Ark did so well is because they had the audience primed well in advance of collecting. This had the benefit of letting the whole stadium know that they were there to raise money for a great cause. Tottenham Hotspur FC warmed up before the match in special edition t-shirts sporting the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice brand and the charity mascots, Henry & Harriet, were visible to spectators and raising awareness.

In a stadium setting, the HD screens are a particularly eye catching feature and tend to draw would-be donors in out of curiosity.

The work that Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice do in supporting children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families is so important and we’re thrilled to be able to support them.
