Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2019

Right now, about 600,000 people in the UK are living with or have been previously diagnosed with breast cancer. Every year around 11,500 women and 80 men sadly die from breast cancer in the UK – that’s nearly one person every 45 minutes.

During October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, GoodBox helped Breast Cancer Now fundraise, by providing GBx Core devices, sponsored by Pello Capital, allowing the charity’s supporters to make cashless donations. The money raised helped Breast Cancer Now fund world-class breast cancer research and provide life-changing support for people diagnosed with the disease.

The month was jam packed with Breast Cancer Now’s fundraising events including fashion shows, corporate partnerships, community fundraising and even student challenges. During October, a total of almost £40,000 was raised through the GBx Core devices alone. Let’s take a look at some of the ways Breast Cancer Now supporters donated using the GBx Core devices.

Tour De Law

As part of an annual cycle challenge event between law firms across the UK, Breast Cancer Now deployed 38 GBx Core devices to 19 different law firms around London and beyond to see who could ride the furthest and raise the most. We gifted each participating law firm two GBx Core Devices to use for two weeks, allowing people to make instant cashless donations and helping Breast Cancer Now Raise an additional £6,000!

The Show

For over 20 years, The Show – taking place in London and Scotland – has been one of Breast Cancer Now’s most successful fundraising events, with men and women affected by breast cancer taking to the catwalk to show that you can look and feel amazing after a diagnosis of the disease. At both events in 2019 we provided contactless payment devices for fundraising games played during the reception enabling attendees to donate without using cash. At The Show Scotland, GoodBox devices were also used to allow guests to make instant £20 pledges to the charity, helping to fund vital research and care.

A huge thanks to Pello Capital and GoodBox for their incredible generosity and support. Your devices enabled us to use contactless payment at scale for the first time, and raise vital funds for breast cancer research and care for those affected by the disease.”

The Student Megaraid

For this event, Breast Cancer Now armed a group of students with the GBx Core devices, to fundraise in London Underground stations. To ramp up the stakes, they were split into teams and pitted each group against each other with the winners of the Megaraid being awarded some fantastic prizes. The ability to collect donations with no internet connection was vital for success in this particular event, especially in Tube stations which offered little to no connectivity. With reputations at stake and prizes to be won, the students got clever, creating eye-catching costumes and devising plans to target peak footfall times like rush hour and lunch to capture as many potential donations as possible. The results were phenomenal with close to £7,000 raised through the GBx Core devices in a single day.

GoodBox supported Breast Cancer Now throughout the month, across more than 20 fundraising events. We are really proud to have worked with the charity, which is providing so much support for today and hope for the future through its fundraising and vital work.

Supporting and enabling charities to leverage contactless fundraising is what we do best at GoodBox, be it for large charities like Breast Cancer Now or small scale school fundraisers. No cause should be without the latest fundraising technology.
